Why Can Someone Grow Taller After Puberty

Why Can Someone Grow Taller After Puberty?

Growing tall and looking good is a noble desire both boys and girls seek in their early years, but when reality dawns and one notices that the preferred height was not attained after puberty, worry sets in. This worry stems from our general belief that growing taller after puberty is impossible because the growth plate has closed. Is this true? Observations and experience have clearly shown that this is not the case. People have been known to grow taller even after the age of 21.

Is it still possible to grow taller after puberty?

It is important to note that people don’t start and stop growing at the same age; some are fast growers and become very tall even before puberty, yet others start showing real growth after puberty. The science behind this is not clear but can be related to the genes that different sets of people carry in them. In other words, puberty does not end at the same age for different individuals; some even keep growing even in their mid-20 years. Using an X-ray machine to determine the growth level at puberty can show if the individual has stopped growing or still has the opportunity to improve in height. The X-rays vividly show if the growth plate at the tip of the bones has finally closed or not. This science is important to determine the next course of action

An open or closed growth plate, what next?

There are three major ways to get taller if the growth plate is confirmed still open through X-rays; these are habits that must be formed and followed strictly to increase the amount of growth hormone during the point:

  •  The first is to rest even more. Sleep has been proven to be the best time for growth to occur. A hot shower before resting is also recommended to help the muscles around the bone joints stretch even more.
  •  The next habit is engaging in frequent exercising of the body; particularly exercises that stretch the joints. The ankle, knees, hips, and neck joints are the most likely places where the skeleton can stretch a little bit. Swimming, basketball, badminton, etc., are other sports that can be added to the routine.
  • Thirdly, seeing a doctor to recommend a good human growth hormone (HGH) medication for you is also highly recommended.

If, on the other hand, the growth plate is confirmed closed as revealed from the X-ray scan, the use of special shoes with high insoles designed to make you look taller might just be the only solution left.
In the alternative to the above, painful surgical procedures that include breaking the leg bones and drilling in bolts might suffice; however, experience from the past shows that this may not be viable in the end.
There are special shoes designed to make a person look taller; some have high insoles, and others come with high heels which add an inch or two to the height while going outdoors for all kinds of functions. Sitting and standing upright with the chin up always also tends to make the fellow look even taller than the original height. In other words, walking and sitting with a good posture would make you look taller.

Some exceptions to the rule

Since some experts attribute the growth in height after puberty to Acromegaly or Gigantism, people are known to gain more height naturally for reasons we can’t yet explain; even though this is just 1 or 2 inches, the fact remains that people can still grow taller even after the growth plate has closed. This might be attributed to an increased production of Growth hormone by the Pituitary glands after puberty; this is not a disease, rather, it is a rare opportunity for people to grow after the growth plate has closed.

The above information is helpful to people who feel ashamed or even depressed because of their low height status. We have seen clearly that it is possible to grow a few inches taller once the growth plate is still open, the methods have been highlighted simply too. Experience over the years has shown that people reach puberty at different ages and also end the same at different ages depending on genes, nutrition, and other factors. Therefore, there is still a possibility to grow taller after puberty. A good recommendation for people whose growth plates are still open would be to increase the amount of growth hormone during the period in review. However, if it is confirmed closed, the fellow should consider other external options that would make him/her look taller.

Don’t give up though, there are still some exceptions to the rules, you never can tell, you might fall in this category; keep doing something good for height potential. Some exceptions to the possibility of growing taller have been emphasized and recommendations on how to look taller have also been listed. In the end, it’s all about following the rules; growing taller after puberty is possible, but the rules have to be followed strictly.
